Tie Kuan Yin

Buena Vida Tea Tie Kuan Yin is a variety of Chinese oolong tea that originated during the Qing dynasty in the 19th century in Anxi Fujian province. Known as “monkey-picked” oolong – this refers to the difficult to reach places where these indigenous tea bushes flourish. Tie Kuan Yin is very lightly oxidized and processed from the leaves of two extraordinarily fragrant cultivars that produce intensely flavored teas.
Tie Kuan Yin tea leaves are rolled into a ball resembling lush green pearls. As the tea brews the tight pearls slowly unfold and bloom – creating a visual spectacle that matches the sweet floral notes that fill the air. This tea should be steeped repeatedly with varied liquor colors developing through each steeping. The initial liquor is light and clear which then evolves to a bright golden yellow before finally returning to an aromatic and clear liquor.
The rich, full bodied flavor of this tea combines hints of orchids and fruity berries and is best enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh fruits, sheep’s milk cheese, or a crême bruleé. Tie Kuan Yin is the perfect choice on a sunny afternoon as the sweet floral notes carry you away to a blossom filled meadow.
