Rooibos

Buena Vida Tea Rooibos is a rich and smooth red-amber infusion, also known as redbush tea, that has long been the national drink of South Africa.  Rooibos is grown in the mountainous region of Cederberg, just north of Cape Town where it’s been harvested for hundreds of years. This tea owes its popularity to the Dutch settlers who arrived in South Africa in the 1700s and has gained worldwide favor more recently.  

This comforting caffeine-free tea is known for its smokey, sweet, floral, earthy and grassy notes with hints of vanilla, geranium, honey and caramel.  Traditionally enjoyed with a splash of milk or cream and lightly sweetened, Rooibos has quickly become one of the most popular herbal teas.  The tea’s natural sweetness is the perfect pairing to nutty, white cheeses and adds balance to curry or spicy foods and is the perfect complement to sponge cakes, custard and sweet tarts.

To brew an ultimate cup of Rooibos we recommend using 205 degree water (just before a full boil) and covering while infusing to extract the maximum flavors.  Rooibos will continue to develop a deeper and more robust flavor as it steeps and will never become bitter or astringent.
