Buena Vida Tea’s Mao Jian – the King of Green Teas – is one of the most famous teas in China with a history of over 2300 years and a specialty of the Henan Province. Mao Jian means hairy and pointy – referring to the distinct look of the white hair covered thin tender tea leaves. Crafting this tea is a truly artisanal process – the tea maker roasts the leaves in small batches in a wok, grabbing and shaking the tea by hand in a precise motion and rhythm to create the signature pointy shape.

Green teas are known for many different flavor notes – savory, floral, grassy – Mao Jian captures all of these notes and more – thick, vegetal, sweet and umami yet savory. This complex and rich flavour profile is a great complement to charcuterie, smoked fish and intensely spiced entrees. Served hot or cold, this green​ tea is a refreshing choice at any time of the day.

Mao Jian’s tightly rolled and intensely deep green colored leaves can easily be mistaken for a black tea. Once steeped, these leaves release a light golden emerald liquor that fills the air and transports you and your senses to a peaceful meadow.
